You can remove a favourite account in Maybank2u in under a minute. On the current Maybank2u interface, go to Pay & Transfer > Pay > My Favourite, tap the three-dot menu next to the account you want to remove, then select Remove. The account disappears from your list straight away.

This guide covers the full step-by-step for both the Maybank2u website and the MAE app, explains what happens to any existing scheduled transfers, and tells you about the 12-hour cooling-off period that kicks in the next time you add a new payee.

Does removing a favourite account require Secure2u?

No. Removing an account from your favourites list is a list-management action, not a financial transaction, so Maybank does not require a Secure2u approval to delete it.

Secure2u is required when you transfer money to a favourite account. Since July 2023, Maybank requires a one-tap Secure2u authorisation for every transfer to a third-party account, DuitNow transfer, and GIRO transfer, including those going to saved favourites. You authorise these from the MAE app notification screen. If you have not yet registered Secure2u, there is a 12-hour waiting period after first activation before it works on a new device.

For a full walkthrough on managing your transfer limit in Maybank2u, see our separate guide.

What happens to scheduled transfers when you remove a favourite?

Removing a favourite account does not cancel any scheduled transfers or standing instructions you have set up to that account. Favourite accounts and standing instructions are stored separately in Maybank2u.

If you want to stop a recurring or scheduled payment, you need to cancel it directly under Pay & Transfer > Scheduled Transfer or through the eStanding Instruction section. Deleting the favourite only removes it from your quick-access list; the underlying transfer schedule stays active until you cancel it there.

The 12-hour cooling-off period when you add a new payee

After you remove an account, you may later want to add a replacement. Be aware of this security rule: from October 2025, Maybank applies a 12-hour cooling-off period whenever you add a new payee to your favourites list. During those 12 hours, you cannot transfer money to that newly added payee.

This cooling-off also applies when you increase your transfer limit. You can still make transfers to existing payees up to your current limit during the waiting window. Maybank sends a notification via the MAE app or SMS when the cooling-off period starts and when it ends.

The cooling-off is a fraud-prevention measure. If you receive a notification about a new payee being added and you did not initiate it, contact Maybank immediately at 1300-88-6688 or use the Kill Switch in the MAE app to block your online banking access.

Why does Maybank have a cooling-off period for new payees?

Scammers who gain access to someone's online banking often try to add a new payee and transfer a large sum immediately. The 12-hour window gives the real account owner time to spot the unauthorised change and act before any money moves. Bank Negara Malaysia requires all licensed banks to implement cooling-off controls as part of its online fraud reduction framework.

Why would you remove a favourite account?

  • You no longer transact with that person or company. Keeping old payees in your list creates clutter and increases the chance of sending money to the wrong account.
  • The account details have changed. If a payee's bank account number has changed, remove the old one and add the new details after confirming them directly with the recipient.
  • Security concern. If you suspect your account was accessed without authorisation, remove unfamiliar payees immediately and run the Kill Switch, then call Maybank.
  • You added it by mistake. It is easy to save the wrong account number during a transfer. Delete it straight away to avoid accidental payments in the future.
  • Keeping your list tidy. A shorter payee list makes the Pay & Transfer screen faster to navigate, especially on mobile.

Frequently asked questions

Can I recover a favourite account after removing it?

No. Once removed, the account is gone from your favourites list. You can add it again by completing a successful transfer to that account and saving it as a favourite at the end of the transaction. The 12-hour cooling-off period will apply to the re-added payee.

Is there a limit to how many favourites I can save in Maybank2u?

Maybank does not publicly state a fixed number, but the list is intended to hold your regularly used payees. Removing accounts you no longer use keeps the list within a manageable size.

Does removing a favourite affect IBG or DuitNow transfers to that account?

No. You can still transfer to any account number via IBG transfer in Maybank2u even if it is not saved as a favourite. The favourite list is purely for convenience. Removing it does not block the account from receiving transfers; it just means you will need to key in the account details manually next time.

Do I need to log in to Maybank2u online to remove a favourite, or can I use the MAE app?

You can do it from either platform. Both the Maybank2u website and the MAE app support removing favourite accounts through the same Pay & Transfer > Pay > My Favourite path. For help with logging in to Maybank2u, see our login guide.
